Ziziphus Jujuba
Ziziphus jujuba, commonly called jujuba, red date, Chinese date, Korean date, or Indian date, is a species of Ziziphus in the buckthorn family (Rhamnaceae). Its common name ‘red date’ refers to its similar appearance and taste to the date palm.
The fruit and seeds of Ziziphus jujuba are used in Chinese and Korean traditional medicine, where they are believed to alleviate stress, and traditionally for anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-ulcer, anti-inflammatory purposes and sedation, it also has antioxidant, immunostimulant, and wound healing properties. The calming effect of Ziziphus is believed to assist with symptoms of irritability, insomnia or shallow sleep with a tendency to wake easily.
In Persian traditional medicine, it is used in combination with other herbal medicines to treat colds, flu and coughing.
