Glutamine
Glutamine is an α-amino acid that is non-essential and conditionally essential in humans, meaning the body can usually synthesize sufficient amounts of it, but in some instances of stress, the body's demand for glutamine increases and glutamine must be obtained from the diet or supplements.
Benefits of Glutamine
- Gut Cell Growth and Digestive Functions: In the gut, glutamine is needed for cellular production and cell growth, and to assist in the absorption and transport of nutrients.
- Prevents and Repairs Leaky Gut: Many factors cause leaky gut (intestinal permeability), such as stress, radiation exposure, and chemotherapy. In many such instances, glutamine helps prevent and repair leaky gut.
- Muscle Building: Glutamine plays key roles in protein metabolism, cell volumizing, and anti-catabolism. Glutamine also increases the ability to secrete Human Growth Hormone, which helps metabolize body fat and support new muscle growth. Glutamine's anti-catabolism ability prevents the breakdown of muscles.
- Wound Healing: Glutamine provides energy for cells that are important for the wound healing processes like macrophages, lymphocytes, and connective tissue. The presence of glutamine in the surrounding of these cells allows these white blood cells to grow.
- Immune Boost: Glutamine is a primary energy source for your immune system by replenishing declining glutamine levels during intense workouts.
